ViaViente Makes Donation To China Earthquake Relief, by Craig Keeland

By now, most of you have become aware of the devastating earthquake that hit China on May 12. ViaViente is reaching out to help.

The powerful earthquake that hit China two weeks ago measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and had disastrous effect on China’s Sichuan Province. Hundreds of aftershocks followed the earthquake. Thousands of people died or are missing, and more than 270,000 were injured. The earthquake left an estimated 5 million people homeless.

Many schools were destroyed including one that had at least 900 students in it. Thousands of buildings and infrastructure like communication networks and electrical towers were destroyed as well, making it more difficult for rescue workers to locate the missing.

ViaViente’s mission is to Restore Health and Hope Around the World. In response to the worst natural disaster to hit China in 30 years, ViaViente is donating US$ 25,000 to earthquake relief efforts in China.

We are making ViaViente’s cash donation through the American Red Cross, which has provided an initial contribution of US$ 10 million to support the recovery efforts of the Red Cross of China. Funds will be used to provide immediate relief to victims of the earthquake, including the purchase and distribution of supplies, coordination of logistics and transportation of disaster workers who are working in the hardest hit areas.

With our global presence, we have family members in Asia Pacific who have been impacted by the earthquake. Our hearts go out to those who have lost family and friends and to those who have lost their homes. I encourage all of you to support the recovery efforts.
