Giving Thanks – The Power of Gratitude
There’s an old saying that if you’ve forgotten the language of gratitude, you’ll never be on speaking terms with happiness. This isn’t just a cute statement. Several studies have shown that depression is inversely related to gratitude. In other words, the more grateful a person is, the less depressed they are.
Philip Watkins, a clinical psychologist at Eastern Washington University, found that clinically depressed individuals showed significantly lower gratitude than non-depressed individuals. In fact, depressed people in the study were nearly 50% less grateful and thankful than non-depressed people.
